Representative Day Appointed Chairman of Aging and Older Adult Services Committee

Jan. 08, 2020

HARRISBURG – State Rep. Gary Day (R-Lehigh/Berks) on Monday was appointed to serve as chairman of the House Aging and Older Adult Services Committee.

“This committee focuses on the people who fought for us, provided for us and taught us to be productive citizens,” Day said. “It’s only right that we have a committee of members focused on their well-being and challenges. I’m excited to lead this committee, and with the help of all of the members, we will take care of the people who took care of us.”

The Aging and Older Adult Services Committee reviews and considers legislation pertaining to policies, programs and services for senior citizens in Pennsylvania. Legislation approved by the committee can then be considered by the full House of Representatives. The committee also oversees existing programs, such as the PACE/PACENET prescription medication programs and others funded by the Pennsylvania Lottery.

“I intend to meet with members of the House and administration this week to determine policy direction for Pennsylvania in this important new role,” Day said. “As a member, I have focused on senior outreach in my district, so I am thrilled to have a larger role in policy that will assist these Pennsylvanians!”

Day previously served as chairman of the House Select Committee on School Safety.

Former Rep. Gene DiGirolamo (R-Bucks) resigned from the House to begin serving as a county commissioner, which created the chairmanship vacancy. Speaker of the House Mike Turzai (R-Allegheny) appointed Day to fill the vacancy.

Day previously served on the House Gaming Oversight, Insurance, Professional Licensure, and Tourism and Recreational Development committees.
