In an aggressive effort to curb the surging COVID-19 delta variant, President Biden yesterday ordered sweeping new federal vaccine requirements for as many as 100 million Americans, reports the Associated Press. The expansive rules mandate that all employers with more than 100 workers require them to be vaccinated or test for the virus weekly. The roughly 17 million workers at health facilities that receive federal Medicare or Medicaid will also have to be fully vaccinated. Furthermore, Biden is requiring vaccination for contractors who do business with the federal government with no option to test out. While GOP leaders and some union chiefs charge that the White House is going too far in “muscling” private companies and workers, Biden did receive words of praise from the American Medical Association and the Business Roundtable.
